Parece que el proyecto musical Proyecto Demian tiene la negra... Este fin de semana tenían programado un concierto en Valencia, ciudad que vio nacer al grupo y en la que todavía no habían subido al escenario desde su debut en Barcelona. Pero por causas que no conozco bien, el grupo ha llegado al final de su vida (aunque no sería la primera vez que renace)
Hace tiempo estuve tocando con ellos, creo que durante un par de años... Nos tirabamos en el local media vida, a veces 12 horas seguidas, ensayando, componiendo, improvisando sin silencios durante horas. De hecho si este concierto se hubiera llegado a realizar habría subido con ellos y el antiguo batería a tocar unas versiones.
Otra vez será.
Those art was created as a poster for a Proyecto Demian concert in valencia, the city which saw the band begin its path but never saw a concert of them (they move to Barcelona and began to do shows there) ...but seems the band has split out and there will be no show at all.
I've been playing with them few years ago, spending a lot of hours practising and jamming, sometimes more than 12 hours in a row. In fact I would play some covers with them and the former drummer this weekend, if the show has finally go on...

Desde hace unos dias se puede visitar la exposición Quaderns de Viatge, organizada por la Apiv, en el Museu de Ciencies Naturals de los Jardines de Viveros, Valencia.
Hoy sabado hay una conferencia de Horacio Altuna a las 18 h y a las 19:30 la Fiesta de la ilustración (que viene a ser el acto de inauguración tardío de la exposición)
En la exposición podreis ver obras de 103 ilustradores e ilustradoras de la Apiv, con textos de Carles Cano. También hay un catálogo editado.
Esto es un escaneado del original de mi aportación. La versión final que podéis ver en la expo y en el catálogo es en escala de grises y tiene algun añadido más (una tinta plana y una trama)

NYS MUSEUM EXHIBIT TO FEATURE ILLUSTRATIONS FROM 13 COUNTRIES
(ALBANY, NY) Focus on Nature XI: Natural History Illustration opens April 12 at the New York State Museum, showcasing world-class, juried artwork by top illustrators from 13 countries.
This exhibition, open through October 31in the Photography Gallery, will feature 93 natural history illustrations, representing the work of 73 illustrators from the U.S., Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa and Spain. The subjects represented are diverse, ranging from those only found in the artists’ home country to those that have a worldwide distribution. They include the Short-beaked Echidna, the Platypus, and the Leadbeater’s Possum, all mammals found only in Australia, and the Red Andreaea, a plant endemic to the Agulhas Negras Mountains of Brazil. Also represented are many birds familiar in the northeastern U.S. such as the Peregrine Falcon, Barred Owl, Connecticut Warbler, House Sparrow, and one of the world’s most widespread -- the Barn Owl. There also are illustrations of an African Dung Beetle, along with the producer of its nourishment -- an African elephant. Also included are recreations of extinct organisms such as the Apatosaurus (a dinosaur), Deinosuchus (an ancient crocodile), and Odontochelys (the ancestor of turtles.)
A five-member jury of artists and scientists selected the pieces on display, based on the illustration’s educational value and artistic quality. The exhibition’s goal is to demonstrate the important role illustration has in natural science research and education, to stimulate curiosity about the world, and bring clearly into focus images of nature that people might not otherwise be able to visualize. Jury Awards will recognize the outstanding achievement of these artists.
“Natural history illustration is both useful to science and appealing to the general public and yet it is an art form that is not often exhibited.” said Patricia Kernan, exhibition curator and scientific illustrator at the Museum. “Most people do not realize that illustrations are still often the primary means used to record science and give explanations of the natural world. While very useful, photography cannot completely replace the accuracy, clarity, and flexibility of good illustrations. For instance, special
diagnostic features can be highlighted, the juxtapositioning of important information can be accomplished, abstract concepts can be diagramed, and extinct organisms can be brought to life. There are examples of all of these in this exhibition.”

Primer post del año... Feliz 2010!
Por aqui el año ha tardado en arrancar, pero parece que empieza bien, con montones de nuev@s visitantes al blog. Gracias a toda la gente que se pasa por aqui y especialmente a aquell@s que me dejan comentarios. Los aprecio de veras!
Sobre el dibujo del pajarito ya comentaré algo importante más adelante, en un par de meses.
Ahora mismo estoy realizando una segunda tanda de páginas de prueba para marvel, a ver si hay suerte... Ya colgaré todas las páginas realizadas si consigo trabajar con ellos. Aqui dejo un primer intento que abandoné para decantarme por el uso de una herramienta más rápida y efectiva (dibujo directo a Wacom!)

Ya está en la calle el manual de supervivencia zombi del flascinder, cuya finalidad es aconsejar a los zombis en su supervivencia contra la sanguinaria cacería de que son presa por parte de los humanos...
Portada y contraportada son obra de Salva Espin al dibujo y de mi al color. No las cuelgo aqui, asi que para verlas tendereis que haceros con un ejemplar o esperar a que Salva las cuelgue en su blog.
Y ademas, si los perretes del flascinder team han hecho su trabajo deberiais haber visto este poster en el salon del manga y en tiendas de comic de valencia, que para algo me pegué el curro de modificar una ilu que ya tenía hecha... En todo caso aqui podeis verlo:
Los frikis responsables de flascinder se disponen a probar un poco de su propia medicina.
Y aqui bajo los retratos para la página de créditos, hechos con tinta digital del Painter.

Mi colaboración para el tema de la semana en La puerta de Tannhauser: Miyazaki
Para quien no la reconozca, es Mononoke, protagonista de una de mis películas de animación favoritas y personaje con la cual comparto su actitud hacia los humanos (pese a ser -al igual que ella- uno de ellos) Si hubiera podido dedicarle más tiempo me habría gustado dibujarla a lomos de uno de sus hermanos lobos, pero otra vez será...
Y este es el dibujo original. Lápiz, acuarela y gouache sobre papel de esbozo.

Varias cosas:
-El jueves estaré en la inauguración de la exposición de cómic e ilustración del Injuve, en Madrid, ya que he sido seleccionado para la misma.
-Una ilustración mía (concretamente la del post anterior) ha sido seleccionada para su posible inclusión en un libro de SkyDoll editado por Marvel. Lo mejor de todo es que los jueces han sido los propios autores de SkyDoll, Alessandro Barbucci y Barbara Canepa. Podeis ver los otros 10 seleccionados aqui.
-No olvideis pasaros por el blog de un nuevo corto de Jaime Herrero en el que estoy participando como diseñador de la criatura principal: Masa Informe
-Y por último un bonus visual:
Lápiz, acuarela y gouache

Estoy intentando volver a utilizar más las técnicas manuales. Es más facil y rápido conseguir mejores resultados. Aqui bajo un punto intermedio del trabajo en el ordenador.
Lately, I'm trying to return to the manual classic techniques. I think it's easier to get better and faster results. Here is a process image, computer step.

En un tour de force me he ventilado estas tres ilustraciones (ademas de alguna cosa mas) hoy!
Criticas, sugerencias, etc bienvenidas ahora que aún estoy a tiempo, aunque me he quedado bastante contento, incluido con la del batman/joker, cuya pose no tenía salvación desde el principio pero que en cambio ha supuesto un desahogo pictórico despues de los otros dos dibujos.
